Ibrahim Mogra on Caring for women

Today, the 25th of November is the United Nation’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. An alarmingly increasing number of men are using violence against women. It is totally unacceptable that mothers, wives, daughters and sisters are violently abused by male relatives and others.
The Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that the mother is most entitled to kindness and care even before the father.

To children he said, “Paradise lies under the feet of the mothers.”

To fathers and brothers he said, “He who supports three daughters or sisters by educating them and being merciful to them until they become self sufficient, God will make Paradise compulsory for him.” A man then asked, “What about two daughters or sisters, will the same apply to two?” Another asked, “What about one daughter or sister?” Muhammad said, “The same applies to one daughter or sister.” He also said, “He who has a daughter and looks after her and does not disgrace her, nor does he prefer his sons over her, God will admit him to Paradise.”

To husbands he said, “The best of you are those who are the best to your wives.”

To all men he said, “Fear God with regards to women. I command you to treat them well.”

Dear God, strengthen our society with the bond of love, affection and care for all, especially women. Give us the courage to protect them and the strength to eliminate violence against them. Grant us Your love, and the love of those whom You love, and the love of those who would bring us closer to Your love, amin.
